The total advertising spending in 2018 in South Korea is expected to grow by 6.4% to KRW 13.683 trillion from the previous year. Contrary to the existing perception that broadcasting advertising amounts to a traditional form of advertising, its sales are estimated to increase by 2.6% from those of the previous year, while the online advertising spending continued to experience growth by displaying a 15.5% year-on-year increase, which reflects the growth of mobile advertising. The share of advertising spending according to media type was recorded in the order of online (40.3%), broadcasting (30.4%), printed (16.6%), outdoor (9.8%), others (3.0%).
Meanwhile, the total advertising spending in 2019 is expected to rise by 4.8% to KRW 14.337 trillion from the previous year. Broadcasting, printed, and outdoor media are projected to experience increases of 1-2%, while the spending on online media is estimated to grow by 9.9%, marking the continuous growth of smart media advertising.
